If you are planning on asking someone for help with improving the quality of your life, you will want to know a little more about them than a photograph on a web page can tell you, so - My name is Elizabeth Slingsby and I live in my home town of Preston, which is in Lancashire in the north west of England and - I suspect that perhaps the images on this website say as much about me as does the text. However, below is a summary of 'me' and how I came to move from a career in the structured and hard headed legal world to becoming a Healer, Counsellor, Teacher and Mentor, Workshops Facilitator and although I would hesitate to describe myself as a Writer and Artist, I do love both writing and creating images. It is almost twenty years since I discovered that it is possible, and more than that it is ‘natural’, for us to heal each other and ourselves. Since that time I have worked as a Healer, at first informally and for a number of years now from my healing practice at my home.
As a result I became an Accredited Healer member of The Association of Professional Healers. My membership of this healer association means that I am qualified and insured to practice as a Healer. I am also a member of the NHS Directory Of Complementary and Alternative Practitioners, and my membership certificates can be viewed by clicking the links on the home page of the site. In 2003 I obtained my Reiki Practitioner certificate and in March 2009 I obtained my Reiki Master/Teacher Certificate to enable me to teach others to be able to offer healing to those who are in pain, whether it is physical, emotional or spiritual. There are many things in life which have a healing effect on us from the laughter of a child to a great work of art, from flowers in spring to the gentle touch of love from another, and the knowledge that they are there for us in our time of need. I have found this to be true from a personal perspective, and it was this that encouraged me to gain a counselling qualification to help me also fulfil that aspect of my healing work. The healing I offer, frequently works in combination with counselling, as I believe our society is so fast paced and our Health Services so overburdened, that there is insufficient time, space, privacy and compassion available to those who desperately need to talk through those issues that trouble or confuse them. Such issues are frequently at the heart of some persistent undercurrent of physical discomfort or distress, and are in effect the 'root of the weed' which needs to be dispensed with in order to achieve a return to improved physical health and greater peace of mind. I have to confess to this being somewhat of a passion for me, and a source of frustration that the kind of service I offer to clients cannot be widely available under the umbrella of the National Health Service. However, hopefully the situation is changing, and the NHS now have a directory of complementary and alternative practitioners available to health care professionals who may call upon such services. It has been said that to be a Healer is not something you do, but something you are. I believe this applies to most (if not all) good Healers I have met over the years. Their work is not restricted to the healing session as such, but is something which emanates from them in all their dealings with others. We must all have met someone whose company leaves us feeling refreshed or uplifted and this for me, is the essence of healing.
Max at play When I am not working I live a relatively quiet life at home with my husband of many years, who because of the nature of my healing work is required to have increasing patience with the amount of time I spend on it. Our two sons left home some time ago, to find their respective paths in life, and so for a number of years we shared our home with a large fluffy, and to the end puppy-like, german shepherd dog called Max. I know the animal lovers amongst you will understand the sad space he left in our home and our hearts. Max was almost eleven years of age and according to the chart in the office of our Vet, that equates to around ninety years of age in a human, so he was really a very old man. The trouble was, no one had told him so, and he firmly believed, despite his limitations towards the end, that he was still a puppy who thought that the whole of life was a game, albeit a game that had become beyond his capabilities. I think perhaps he had something to teach us. However, our family has now been blessed with a new grandson who helps to keep me from becoming buried in my work and reminds me what joy the young and innocent bring into our lives. They remind us that many of the day to day concerns we have really do not warrant the importance we place upon them. Matthew is for me a reminder that sometimes we really should just stop and simply enjoy the moment. The name of my website sums up my wish for all of us, a wish that I firmly believe will eventually come to pass, if we are able to focus on all of the good things that are taking place around us, and resist being brought down by the bombardment of ‘bad news’ aimed at us every day through various forms of media. I believe that we can make a difference to the world around and within us, more than we perhaps realise, by spreading our own individual kindness and understanding toward others wherever possible.
My aim is to be of service in helping my clients to help themselves and each other to make this earth a more peaceful planet to live on, and, towards becoming more aware of the universal nature of ourselves and our lives; and the things we have in common rather than our differences. Click on the links to find out how you can embark on a journey of self discovery and learn about improving your life and the lives of those around you, or feel free to telephone or e-mail me with your questions or concerns.
