When seeking Past Life Therapy the choice is entirely yours whether you wish to attend for a single session or a series of sessions. However, if you are seeking to solve a specific problem or issue you will in all probability require more than one past life therapy session.

Elizabeth Slingsby Past Life Therapy is often used in circumstances where help is sought for recurrent problems such as phobias, habits or psychosomatic symptoms generally, where Hypnotherapy which works only with the experiences of the current life has not succeeded. It may even be that we would consult a Past Life Therapist without having attended for a general Hypnotherapy session, because we somehow sense that our problem has its roots in a previous life and we feel that past life regression is what may help us to find a solution. In the practice of Hypnotherapy it is sometimes the case that the conventional use of Hypnoanalysis is unable to discover and dispense with the underlying cause of our problem. This means that no cure is found and the problem persists. There is a widely held view that this may happen because the problem is rooted in a previous life, and the effects of this root have been carried through into our current life. If the cause of our problem is indeed rooted in a past life, it is only when we are safely assisted to regress into our experiences of a previous life or lives that the root cause will become manifest and understood by us. In past Life Therapy the problem is identified so that abreaction can take place and we can be freed from the effects of the problem and its root cause. It should be mentioned here that certain schools of thought argue that past lives reported are no more than the result of ‘crytomnesia’ namely, that a past life ‘story’ is created by the client who builds this story on knowledge they already hold but have forgotten.Large amounts of research have been carried out in this area, and when that research is considered together with the nature of the recalled information about previous lives it would appear that the above does not offer a complete explanation. Whilst the principle of Past Life Therapy is largely based around the concept of reincarnation, or the continuing cycle of life, death and rebirth, we have to consider that another mechanism entirely is at work here. However, whatever that mechanism may be, if indeed it exists, it does not detract from the effectiveness of Past Life Therapy. There are of course also those of us who do not feel that we have any specific phobia, habit or problem that is detracting from our wellbeing, but we do have an interest in the subject of reincarnation and past life, and wish to explore our own past life or lives. For anyone who feels this way one session may be all that is needed to provide the information that is sought. Past Life therapy works with the process of hypnotherapy or therapeutic hypnosis, and I have set out below some information about hypnosis which dispenses with some of the commonly held misconceptions about it, which I trust will be helpful for anyone considering whether to attend for Past Life Therapy.
Hypnosis: It is important to begin by understanding that hypnosis is a perfectly natural process, and a person in hypnosis cannot be made to do anything contrary to his or her moral or ethical codes. When our only understanding of hypnosis comes from ‘stage hypnosis’ we perhaps need to look more closely at how hypnosis as a therapy works. One of the most common and widely held misconceptions about hypnosis is that when in a hypnotic state we lose consciousness. Sadly many people who could benefit from Hypnotherapy fail to access those benefits because of their fears around this point, and their concerns that they are handing over control of their mind to another person which is not the case. At even the deepest level of hypnosis the person experiencing that hypnosis is completely aware of their circumstances and surroundings at all times. Furthermore the deeper the level of hypnosis the greater their awareness will be and the better will be the therapeutic benefit. One of the greatest difficulties for many Hypnotists is to convince their client that he or she has in fact achieved a hypnotic state. The reason for this is that they realise they have been completely aware of all that has been said and done during the session, and at no time have they been unaware of what is taking place. Over ninety percent of people who experience hypnosis for the first time will deny that they have been hypnotised, stating that they were completely aware of all that was said and done during a session. This of course helps to describe how natural a process hypnosis is. If you are seeking Past Life Therapy to deal with a problem you feel it is relevant for, you should expect to attend an average of two to four sessions in order to identify and deal with the issue at hand.If you wish to experience Past Life Therapy purely because you have an interest in exploring a previous life or lives as part of your own personal and spiritual development and have no specific issue that you feel you need treatment for a single past life session may fulfil your requirement. However, it is possible that in experiencing Past Life Therapy you may wish to attend for further sessions and explore in more depth what might be described as your ancient past.
